HONG KONG The Philippines, out to redeem itself from an embarrassing stint in the Busan Asian Games last October, crushed Hong Kong, 13-2, Monday in the third Zhujiang Cup International Invitational baseball tournament.
The RP batters were so dominant that they needed only five innings to post the victory by virtue of the 10-run margin rule. Reuben Angeles opened up the inning with a single, followed by a triple by Cris Jimenez sending Angeles home for the first run.
It opened the gates for the Philippines runaway victory as it scored three more runs in the second inning. Three more runs were scored on the third frame, two on the fourth and a couple more on the fifth and last inning.
Andoy Velasquez, Ricardo Jimenez, Marlon Caspillo and Ferdinand Recto all delivered for the Philippines which placed last in a field of five in Busan behind South Korea, Japan, Chinese-Taipei and China.
