Baby Griffins keep unbeaten record in NCRAA cagefest

The Colegio de San Lorenzo Baby Griffins affirmed their supremacy yesterday in the junior division of the 10th National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) men’s basketball tournament at the Pearl Plaza gym in Tambo, Parañaque.

Four Baby Griffins, led by topscorer Ryan Arana, scored the big baskets which carried them past Olivarez High School, 85-79, in this 18-team tournament sponsored by Airfreight 2100, Villa de Oro-Boracay and www.universitybelt.com/ncraa.

This kept the Baby Griffins unbeaten after five games and put them on course for the first semifinals slot with another unbeaten team, the St. Francis Dovelets who kept up with the Baby Griffins after blasting Emilio Aguinaldo HS, 99-41.

Arana led the Baby Griffins with 27 points, making 10 of it in the first half where he combined for 25 points with Ely Espino and Jericho Puno for a 47-35 halftime edge.

Greg Peregrina poured in eight of 10 points in the first period as CDSL dominated with a 21-10 spread.

The race for semifinal seats in the junior side heats up as Olivarez HS fights to stay alive with its 3-2 slate.

They are fighting for the two remaining slots with St. Benedict College, San Sebastian College-Recoletos of Cavite and New Era University.
