Eight-man off to Asian karting in Kuala Lumpur

An eight-man Philippine team, led by "Karter of the Year" awardee Pepon Marave, will represent the country in the second leg of the Asian Zone Karting Championships in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this weekend.

Marave, who won the overall title in the 2002 Shell Super Karting Series at the Carmona Racing Circuit this year, will see action in the centerpiece Formula A category.

Joining Marave were Lee Bumgarner and children Michelle and Mark Bumgarner, Tom and Marlon Stockinger, Eduardo Pena Jr. and Mateo Guidecelli.

Carmona Circuit Phils. organizer and head of delegation Johnny Tan lauded the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), headed by chairman Eric Buhain, for its support to the national karters.

"We would like to express our gratitude to chairman Buhain and the PSC for their timely assistance to our national karters," said Tan.

"We are confident that our karters will perform very well and bring honors to the country through the karting series," added Tan.

The Asian championship is considered as the biggest karting competion in the region.

The country hosted the initial leg of the annual series at the Carmona Racing Circuit in Carmona, Cavite last August.
