Brand-new race track unveils at CCP

A brand-new race track for karters is set to open next week at the sprawling Cultural Center of the Philippines complex to give would-be kart racers an accessible and professionally-managed track which organizers hope would help budding and aspiring racers hone and develop their skills.

Called Kart Trak, the 6,000-square meter facility is located inside the Boomland amusement park at the CCP complex in Pasay City. It will be run and managed by the Carmona Circuit-Manila under couple Johnny and Carlota Tan.

Tan said the track will formally be opened to the public on Dec. 17. For a fee of P150, visitors would be allowed three minutes at the wheels, and would be provided with the required safety gears, equipment, racing suits and a compulsory race briefing for first-timers.

Kart Trak will initially be using rental karts at the facility, with top speed of up to 40 kph on a 5.5 hp engine. Racing karts, with top speeds of up to 100 kph on 28 hp engines, would occasionally be utilized for professional races.

Tan said Kart Track, which boasts of a 420-meter track with a seven-meter width in compliance with international race specifications, will also eventually host scooter races for 50cc to 110 cc.

Kart Trak is one of the main draws of Boomland, the country’s newest amusement park located at the former Boom na Boom carnival. For details, call up the Philippine Exhibits and Themeparks Corp. at 832-5422.
