Agojo leads RP jungolfers in AsPac

-
Multi-titled Jayvie Agojo will spearhead the country’s bid in next week’s inaugural Asia-Pacific Junior Golf Masters at the Legends course of the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club in Carmona, Cavite.

Agojo, winner of the Optimist International and Temecula titles this year, was named along with seven others by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines to carry the Philippine colors in the 72-hole championship which has drawn the best junior golfers in the region.

The other members of the Philippine team who were chosen after an intensive screening are Marites Salivio, Gerileen Handog, Lawrence Negrido, Justin Limjap, Miko Alejandro and Jasper Braga.

They will be going up against representatives of 11 other countries -- Chinese-Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore Thailand and the United States -- in the event supported by the Department of Tourism and Manila Southwoods.

The 54 players aged 17 years and below will be disputing the boys and girls titles over four days Dec. 10-13.

Merwin Mediana, president of Jungolf, said they are very happy with the way foreign teams have responded to the invitations.

"The field is made up of Asian and world champions. With only two trophies to be won, we expect the jungolfers to be playing their best every day," Mediana said.
