-
De La Salle banked on rookie Yannick Guba to beat University of the Philippines, 2-1, last Sunday in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) men’s tennis tournament at the Rizal Sports Complex.

Guba, a former junior standout from Bacolod City, survived Jeremiah Sison, 6-1, 6-7, 6-2, in the second singles match.

Joseph Nicholas Faller scored La Salle’s first point with a hard-earned 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Junji Guadayo in the first singles match.

The Fighting Maroons fought back and won the doubles behind Jericho Sison and Alexander Borela Jr., who scored a 6-3, 6-4, win over Andre Cruz and Gino Almario.

Ateneo de Manila, runnerup to champion University of Santo Tomas last year, conquered University of the East, 2-1, in the other game.

Neil Co defeated Jerry Bernabe, 6-1, 6-2, and Inigo Bautista and Francisco Gerard Abacan demolished Christian Banato and Jhune Llira, 6-1, 6-0.

The Red Warriors averted a rout when Peter Perpetua downed Mark Timbleque, 6-2, 6-2, in the second singles.
