Lyceum rips CSL, claims second win

Chico Lanete and Bobot Faustino provided the 1-2 punch as Lyceum downed Colegio de San Lorenzo, 77-70, and claimed its second straight win in the 10th National Capital Regional Athletic Association (NCRAA) men’s basketball tournament at the PMI gym.

Lanete 22 points and Faustino 11 as the two, along with Dean Apor, sank three free throws in the final 27 seconds to put the game away.

The win was a fitting follow-up to the Pirates’ 95-65 rout of La Salle-Dasmariñas in the opener, enabling them to grab the solo lead in Group B of the three-month long tournament sponsored by Airfreight 2100, Villa de Oro-Boracay and www.university.belt.com/ncraa.

The Pirates are one of two unbeaten teams so far in the young tournament, the other being defending champion St. Francis of Assisi which leads Group A with a similar 2-0 card.

The Doves notched their second straight win Friday by routing Rizal Technological University, 84-56. They will next face New Era University on Tuesday while Lyceum meets AMACC on Wednesday in a bid to keep their winning streak going.

La Salle-Dasmariñas, meanwhile, bounced back from an opening-day setback to the Pirates with a 90-84 beating of winless Olivarez College.

In women’s play, Lyceum trounced RTU, 104-24, while New Era University downed Emilio Aguinaldo College, 66-42, to earn a share of the top spot with La Salle-Manila.

In the junior side, AMA Computer University prevailed over EAC, 65-60, to share the early lead with St. Francis and CDSL.

St. Francis stopped San Sebastian College-Cavite, 73-54, while CDSL demolished RTU, 124-47.
