Chan, Cordero, Arambulo bag gold in archery opener

Olympian Jennifer Chan, Asian Games veteran Marvin Cordero and multi-titled compound bow bet Raul Ramon Arambulo bagged a gold medal each in the 18-meter distance Thursday at the start of the four-day national archery target championships at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Carrying the colors of Silliman U-Dumaguete, Chan tallied 571 points to beat Rachelle Anne Cabral (554) and Joann Tabanag (550), while Cordero of CANAMA carded 565 points to whip Arnold Rojas (556) and Christian Cubilla (555) in the women’s and men’s recurve competitions.

Arambulo of 1PK Blue posted 570 points to pull away from Earl Yap of 1PK Green (557) and Enrique Fernandez of IPK Red (552) in the compound bow division.

The other early gold medalists in the 18-meter distance (standard round) of the tourney organized by the National Archery Association of the Philippines and supported by the Philippine Sports Commission were Melanie Teresa Gagtan of UP Baguio and Romualdo Cascayan of INAC.

Gagtan submitted 359 to beat Tanya Katrina Nacional (304) and Catherine Santos (296) while Cascayan carded 436 to whip Christian Delima (396) and Jackrick Mark Reyes (385) in the girls’ and boys’ divisions.
