Danny Seigle from A to Z
November 18, 2002 | 12:00am
In our radio program, In the Zone, which airs every Monday 8-10 a.m. on DZSR 918AM, listeners are constantly asking about Danny Seigle. He was sorely missed by the National Team in Busan. And still being missed by the fans here in the Selecta-PBA All-Filipino Cup. He just got back last night from therapy sessions in LA. So expect to see him in the sidelines watching the SMB games. For those who are dying to know more about the Dynamite, read on.
A is for Andy Seigle, Dannys big brother. Big brother is one of his influences in basketball. He says he grew up watching Andy play. "I was a junior in college. I came over with Andy when he was asked to play in the PBA. I was only gonna stay a week but I ended up staying 3 months cause I liked it so much."
B obviously stands for basketball. But basketball wasnt the only sport he dabbled in. He recalls his early years when he played other sports with his friends and brothers. He adds that growing up with a lot of friends who played sports made him really athletic.
C is for Carbondale, a small town in Pennsylvania where Danny grew up in with his family. Hes the youngest of five. He has two older sisters based in the States, Andy, and another brother Mark. Danny speaks fondly of his family, "As a family, were very, very, very close. And we respect our elders."
D is for Dynamite. Thats what we call him in the PBA. It started with Viva-Vintage panelists, Noli Eala and Quinito Henson. (Thanks Farrah.)
E is for eleven p.m. This is Dannys bedtime. Man, this guy loves to sleep! During training for the Asian Games, it was even earlier. He claims he got so burnt out from practice that he was already hitting the sack by 10 or even 9 p.m. Now we know why he grew so tall!
F is for football. American football is another sport that he used to play while growing up.
G is for "girls, girls, girls." He likes someone he can be friends with, someone he can have fun with, hang-out with; get the picture?
H is for humble. I think the word best describes this superstar. He plays a mean game on the hardcourt, but out of it hes just a simple guy. According to him, "Im just an average guy playing a popular sport."
I is for injury the thing that every athlete dreads. He says its a players "worst nightmare." He feels bad over his latest injury that hindered him from playing in the Busan Asiad. But thats life. It was an accident.
J is for Jennifer Aniston, his favorite actress.
K is for Kyla. This is the name of his last girlfriend. They were together for one and a half years.
L is for losing which Danny really hates. He admits that he is a terrible loser. How does he deal with it? He goes home; grabs a tape; and locks himself up in the room.
M is for Mamas boy. This guy is. Danny is really proud of his mom. He admires her for strength. His mom is 100 percent Filipino, originally from Samar.
N is for Nic Belasco who is not only a teammate but also a good friend.
O is for octopus. "I love calamari," he adds.
P is for practice.
Q is for Quebert. This is a game in Atari which Danny used to play when he was a kid. "You know the little guy that just bounces on the blocks and he turns the blocks into different colors," he explains. Atari? That just gives Dannys age away.
R is for raw fish which he cant eat. Sushi is not a favorite.
S is for sinigang, his favorite Filipino dish. He also likes adobo.
T is for time. He claims this is a luxury that he doesnt really have. He devotes all his time and energy to practice and now, therapy. By the time hes done, hes too tired to do anything else.
U is for unpredictable. Thats how he describes girls.
V is for vodka cranberry his favorite drink; aside from San Mig Light which he considers "yummy."
W is for winning. It is "the pay-off of all the hard work and dedication you put into the sport."
X is for xylophone. Nope, he doesnt know how to play this or any other musical instrument, though he appreciates music. He likes listening to RnB.
Y is for Yellow Cab Pizza, his favorite.
Z is for Zupeda Clams and Mussels, another favorite dish.
