BAGUIO CITY Whenever people hear the word Baguio, they think of the cool climate and popular delicacies that abound in the place. When it comes to playing golf, theres no doubt Camp John Hay is the perfect place to be in.
Designed by Jack "Golden Bear " Nicklaus, John Hay is the only golf course in the country that uses bent grass, the same grass used in the Augusta National in Augusta, Georgia, home of the US Masters Golf tournament.
"The bent grass green is lightning fast. The ball still rolls even on an uphill putt. You really have to play the slope to score well," said Camp John Hay chairman Robert John Sobrepeña. "As a matter of fact 600 players from here and around the world will be able to test the challenging and scenic golf course during our annual Fil-Am Golf Invitational next month," he said.
Nestled in Baguios only remaining pine forest, Camp John Hays 18 hole par 69, 5,000-yard golf course embodies rolling hills, lakes, mature foliage and pine trees that capture the natural beauty and cool climate of the mountain region.
Accommodations in Camp John Hay will never be a problem. The newly-built Camp John Hay Manor is a 189-room hotel facility located just five minutes from the golf course. Guests are assured of world-class hotel services and amenities apart from the magnificent architectural design and landscape it is now famous for.
The Food & Beverage of the Manor Hotel is being handled by Le Soufflé topped with a deli shop and a fine dining restaurant that opens up the veranda facing the historic Friendship Garden.
