Manalo reaches 12-U final

Top seed Nikki Manalo outplayed third pick Irina Quinatadcan, 6-0, 6-0, yesterday to reach the girls’ 12-under finals of the Alberto Lina Masters Cup tennis tournament at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

Manalo, champion in the FedEx netfest last week, will face second seed Trudy Amoranto, a 6-0, 6-0, winner over Jia Alesis, when this two-weekend event resumes on Friday.

In the boys’ 14-under category, third seed Russell Arcilla Jr. outclassed Dan Jeffrey Onate, 6-1, 6-1; No. 4 Daniel Macalino defeated Tomic Apacible, 6-1, 6-3; and Joseph Baldonado downed Jarryd Manduriao, 6-2, 6-2, to earn quarterfinals berths in this event supported by Dunlop balls.

In the boys’ 12-under division, No. 1 Gerard Michael Ngo downed Akio Sy, 6-1, 6-1, to advance in the quarterfinals against fifth seed Edwin Olivarez, who beat Christopher Borlongan, 6-4, 6-4. Also advancing were Tomic Apacible, Jose Lorenzo Opulencia, Vincent Joven Atienza, Homer Paolo Perez and Rodel Joseph Navarro.

In the unisex 10-under class, No. 1 Akio Sy demolished Maika Tanpoco, 6-0, 6-0.
