Art Borjal Memorial chess tourney slated

A cash purse of P26,500 and trophies are up for grabs in the first Art Borjal Youth Active Chess Memorial Cup, which kicks off at the SM City Manilas Entertainment Plaza Oct. 19 at 10 a.m.
The Swiss-system tournament, sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, pits emerging talents and seasoned chess campaigners from Metro Manila and outlying regions in the 20-and-under and 14-and-below divisions.
Invited to grace the tournaments opening rites are Manila Mayor Jose "Lito" Atienza Jr., National Chess Federation of the Philippines representative and Asias first grandmaster Eugene Torre and Sports Activities Inc. (SAI) president Enofre Manuel, and some special guests.
Providing support to the commemorative tournament are Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), Fil-Estate Properties, Inc., San Miguel Corporation, PLDT and SM Supermalls.
