Bata, Django rip rivals, dispute top post today

Filipino cue artists Efren "Bata" Reyes and Django Bustamante remained undefeated on the second day by outsmarting world champions Corey Deuel and Mika Immonen, respectively, in the Café Puro "Challenge of the Masters" invitational being held at the Subic Bay Yacht Club.

Reyes gave Deuel a beating with perfect score 5-0 count in the first set of the contest. Impressive Reyes shot a combination of balls 2 and 9 at the right corner pocket after a disappointing foul ball from his opponent during the Game 3.

Trying to get back on track, Deuel made a gallant effort in the second set where he was able to rack in Game no. 4 and swept two more games. However, Bata still prevailed with precision shots. Reyes took in the second set, 5-3.

The Magician won with perfect score of 2-0 to prime up against Bustamante today in the preliminaries of the event co-sponsored by the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) with Viva Vintage Sports and Puyat Sports.

On the other hand, Bustamante gave hot streaking score of 5-4 and 5-3 against Immonen to set a match on Friday for the winners’ bracket.

Reyes and Bustamante will play for top position with the winner playing against the loser of the Deuel-Immonen match. The semifinal will pit the top ranked bet against the fourth placer and the second placer versus the third ranked. Winners of these matches will play in the championship.

SBMA Chairman Felicito Payumo said that part of the tourism promotional campaign of the SBMA is being done through hosting of popular sporting events from the recent baseball game, car racing, tennis competitions, triathlon and now billiards.
