Sagario gains lead in PEACE active chess

Lawyer Quirino Sagario surged to the top of the grand prix standings in the elite Success section after three legs of the 2002 Philippine Executive Active Chess Express or PEACE 2002.

Sagario enjoys a three-point lead over erstwhile leader Ryan Ruiz going into the fourth leg on Sept. 28 at Land Bank Plaza in Malate, Manila. Sagario has 41 points to Ruiz’s 38.

Organized by the Active Chess center of Asia (ACCA) in cooperation with Belgosa Media Systems and Land Bank, PEACE 2002 is sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP). Business executives and professionals who wish to join PEACE 2002 may contact the ACCA at tel. 892-8759.

Defending champion Dennis San Juan and three-time grandprix topnotcher Jenny Mayor are tied at third-fourth places with 36 points each. Manny Yu is alone in the 5th spot with 34 points.

The rest of the top ten: 6th Edward Ang, 32 points; 7th Gary Lagaspi, 30; 8th-9th Ricky Navalta and Noel Garcia, 29; 10th Tyrone Guya and Giovanni Dy, 26. The top ten in the Prosperity section: first Cyrus Atienza, 35 points; second Ronald Donasco, 33; third Gunnar Abelido, 30; fourth Rolando Gangozo, 28; fifth Reenan Hornilla, 27; sixth-seventh Augustus Ata and Amando Labarda, 26; 8th-10th Lorenzo Tabilog, Rey Hechanova and Abraham Dalagan, 23.
