Golf leader to receive award

Amalia "Mommy" Montecillo, the prime mover of the junior golf movement in the country, will be conferred the Golf Personality Award during the seventh Philippine International Golf Show at Hall 2 of the SM MegaMall on Oct. 4-6.

The officialdom of the Golf Distributors Association of the Philippines, organizers of the annual show, voted to honor Montecillo for her pioneering efforts in the promotion of the jungolf program that has led to a steady stream of world champions, prized amateurs and topnotch pros.

"Mommy has been a source of inspiration for budding players and all those who have been very successful in making a career out of the game can attest to this," said GDAP president Raymund Atendido.

With only two weeks to go before Show time, GDAP and event manager Fairs & More are in the thick of preparations for the expected deluge of local and foreign visitors.

Show sponsors are Greg Norman and US Golf Kids through its distributor Planet Sports, Inc., Lexber Holiday Int’l., Gold’s Gym, Asia Brewery, Del Monte Phils., Bravo Restaurant, Continental Airlines, Guam Visitors Bureau, Standard Chartered, JIMAC Inc. and Casino Filipino. Quest Broadcasting, Crossover, Joey 92.3 are media partners.

Ushering in the event is an 18-hole golf tournaments with exciting prizes on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at the west course of the Wack Wack Golf & Country Club. Tickets are sold for P2,200 for non-Wack Wack members and P1,000 for Wack Wack members.

About a hundred booths displaying various golf-related products will be in the Show with each participating company having their own promotional gimmicks. The Show will also feature seminars on special topics. .to be conducted by the Philippine Turfgrass Association.
