34 schools confirm stint in Q Games

An initial list of 34 schools have confirmed their participation in the inaugural Quest for Excellence, also known as the Q Games, which will feature competitions in sports, academics and the arts when it fires off in October.

The turnout, an interesting mix of the country’s top schools which are leaders in sports and academics, gave officials of the Quest for Excellence Inc., organizer of the event, to aim for a 50-school amalgamation which will have one winner bringing home the coveted Presidential Cup.

Among the early entries were Adamson, Arellano U, Assumption College, Ateneo High, Benedictine Abbey International School, Centro Escolar University, De La Salle-Zobel, Don Bosco Technical College-Mandaluyong, Don Bosco Technical Institute - Makati, Flos Carmeli, Jose Rizal University, La Salle Greenhills, Lourdes School, Makati Science, New Era University, Paref-Northfield School for Boys, Paref-Southridge School for Boys, Pasig Catholic College, Philippine Science HS, Philippine Women’s U, Polytechnic University of the Phils - Taguig, Saint Francis of Assisi System, San Beda, School of the Holy Spirit - QC, Southville International School, St. Benedict College, St. Mary of the Woods School, St. Mary’s -QC, St. Paul College - Manila, St. Paul College - Pasig, Trinity College,UST, University of Perpetual Help, and Xavier School.

The inaugural Q Games, a tri-leevl competition that runs up to February next year, will be handled by competent groups that count some of the most respected names in sports, including Nic Jorge of Milo Best, Ramon Tuason of the Metropolitan Basketball Association, organizers of the Checkmate chess series and Bong Barrameda, best known as quiz shows consultant who also handled many sports competitions including the now defunct Marlboro Tour.

Forty-seven schools and universities, including members of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and the National Collegiate Atheletic Association (NCAA), have attended the first Q Games assembly last August and judging from the initial roster, organizers are confident of reaching their target number of participants.
