CEBU - A well-balanced Sta. Elena squad streaked to another unchallenged victory in the team competition while Southwoods Lora Roberto shared the glory by notching her first major individual feat in the 2002 WGAP Luzvimin golf tournament at the Cebu Country Club course here.
The Sta. Elena squad, completing a masterful romp of the field for the second straight year, pulled off a wire-to-wire victory as it turned back Del Monte for the title in the centerpiece Diamond division of the 54-hole tourney which drew entries from 22 clubs all over the country.
Members of the teams are Carina Ricamonte, Nancy Ortiga, Therese Dabao, Rio Co, Lily Chan and Venice Godio.
The Sta. Elena frontliners, however, failed to stop Robertos big career breakthrough.
The diminutive national pool member climaxed a tremendous improvement by beating former national Lina de Guzman of Canlubang for the individual crown.
Villamor and Manila Golf took the Ruby and Pearl divisions, respectively.
Masa Isai, Chin Chu Hung, Jo Barredo, Mary Jane Hernandez, Hey Fubong and Jean Chou powered Villamor to a convincing victory over Philippine Navy.
Manila Golfs Kay Tachi, Isa Velayo, Cora Suntay, Maridol Mabanta and Letty Laurel finished ahead of Marapara which claimed runner-up honors via the countback.
The other individual winners were Jocelyn Garcia of Guinhalaran who beat Shella Dollosa of Bacolod for the Class A plum, Norma Lawrence of Baguio who defeated Medy Agustin of Navy for the Class B title and Gina Regalado of Guinhalaran who won over Maridol Mabanta of Manila Golf Class C.
