Peñalosa stakes title today

The Philippines’ Gerry Peñalosa will defend his World Boxing Council International (WBC) superflyweight title against Japanese Seiji Tanaka today in Honolulu.

It will be Peñalosa’s fourth title defense of the title he won by stopping Pone Saengmorakot of Thailand in May 27, 2000 with sixth round TKO.

The bout is part of a buildup for the Filipino champion in his make-or-break fight against arch nemesis Masamori Tokuyama of Japan this November.
