Peñalosa primes up for date vs Japanese

-
The next 10 days is very crucial for the current World Boxing Council (WBC) International Superflyweight champion Gerry Peñalosa as he gears up for his tune-up fight this coming Aug. 20 in Hawaii.

Dubbed as Showdown in Honolulu, Peñalosa collides with top Japanese contender Seiji Tanaka, who is also being managed by Hideo Kanazawa, the manager of Tokuyama whom Peñalosa is scheduled to fight by November 2002 for the world title.

This is the fourth title defense of Peñalosa after capturing the vacant title in May 27, 2000 against Pone Saengmorakot of Thailand via technical knockout in the sixth round.

Showdown in Honolulu is sure to bring delight to all boxing aficionados as Elorde International Production presents a gathering of two big names in boxing. Aside from Peñalosa, Manny Pacquiao, the reigning IBF SuperBantamweight king displays some fistic excellence with the Hawaiian Punch Jesus Salud in an exhibition round.

Supporting the card is a 10-round non-title fight between the current World Boxing Council Int’l Lightflyweight champion Juanito Rubillar against former Japanese Lightflyweight champion Takayuki Korogi.

Showdown in Honolulu is backed by Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. Catch this exhilarating slugfest explode in your screens on Aug. 25 from 10 p.m. to 12mn over NBN-4 (formerly PTV-4).
