National Touring at Batangas circuit

The showdown for the Driver-of-the-Year award continues as the Philippine National Touring Car Championships stages rounds 5 and 6 next weekend in the 2002 PCSO Grand Prix at the Batangas Racing Circuit in Rosario, Batangas.

It will be a tough battle among the country’s best drivers led by Caltex Havoline-Autoplus’ Jody Coseteng, Fujitsu Team Tom’s Jojo Silverio and Vincent Floirendo and Petron-SRA’s Kookie Ramirez in this event sanctioned by the Automotive Association of the Philippines (formerly PMA) and sponsored by the Batangas Racing Circuit Association (BRCA) Board of Governors, Pilipinas Shell, Toyota Motors Phil., MOF Shipping, Norkis-Yamaha, Marlboro, Casino Filipino and Kilton Motors Corporation.

Coseteng leads the series with 60 points after sweeping the past four legs aboard his reliable Honda Civic prepared by Autoplus.

But Silverio, his best pal and toughest rival, is just close behind with 48 points. Getting the feel of his Toyota Corolla in the last leg, Silverio gave Coseteng a big scare – moving too close for comfort in the first 10 laps.

Floirendo also proved tough as he finished runner-up in the kickoff leg. He’s third overall with 33 points and a big win will make the title race even more exciting.
