Mt. Malarayat to hold Mid-Amateur Open

-
LIPA CITY – The first Active Group Mid-Amateur Open, a tournament confined to top executives and businessmen, will be played next month at the Mount Malarayat Golf and Country Club here.

"We are launching this event with the goal of making it one of the country’s top amateur events as well as one of our club majors," Mount Malarayat chairman Tony Turalba said yesterday.

Completing the organizing committee membership are Mount Malarayat president Antonio "Toti" Turalba Jr., golf director Mike Carr and golf operations manager Jack Imperial.

"We are staging this championship from Aug. 14 to 16," Toti Turalba said. "This is open to amateur golfers who are from 30 to 54 years old. We will group them into four divisions based on handicap indexes.

Organizers said those with handicap indexes of from zero to 7.3 will play in the Championship Class, 7.4-12.2 Class A, 12.3-17.1 Class B and 17.2-22.1 Class C. Only NGAP or IPI handicap indexes for June will be accepted."

The Championship Class will be played over 54 holes while the other classes will be over 36. Entry fee is P2,000. Registration deadline is at 5 p.m. Aug. 2.

Tony Turalba said they are limiting the tournament to those top players who were good in their youth, but who are also now the country’s leading businessmen and executives.

Registration centers are the Active Group Inc., 14th floor, ACT Tower, 135 Gil Puyat Avenue, Makati City with tel. 894-01-55 through Noemi Delfin and Mount Malarayat (043) 756-79-32 through Tina Morales.
