Manila Jockey Club posted an all-time sales record of more than P44.72-million for its marquee "Gran Copa de Manila" race card last Monday to once again highlight the stature of the annual "Araw ng Maynila" racing classic as the undisputed top grossing event in local horse racing history.
The new record gross sales eclipsed the previous all-time record of P41.59 million set during last years staging of popular blue-ribbon event, notwithstanding the fact that only 14 races were actually run in last Mondays card compared to 15 races staged last year.
"We are truly overwhelmed and thankful for the tremendous support given by the public to this years Gran Copa festivities which once again became venue to a new record which went beyond our earlier expectations. To them, we share the honor of celebrating this great day in local horse racing," according to MJCI president and chief executive Atty. Alfonso Reyno Jr.
