Rey moves up in PBC bowl

-
Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Botchok Rey took the lead in the men’s singles Class O yesterday during the penultimate day of the eliminations among local campaigners in the 31st Boysen-PBC International Open at the Green Valley Country Club.

Rey succeeded where Angelo Constantino failed the other day, bouncing off fellow RP team member Biboy Rivera at the top by rolling a four-game series of 998 pinfalls in the tournament serving as the third leg of the CGU Asian Bowling Tour 2002.

It was the third time in the last four days of the meet sponsored by Boysen, Philippine Sports Commission, Regent Foods, Prudential Guarantee, Prima Pasta, Bowlmart, ILO Construction, Kegel and Manila Galleria Suites that the men’s singles leader changed hands.

That’s in stark contrast in the Class O of the distaff side where Irene Benitez never wavered since the opener. She’s still on top with a 977.

Likewise, Liza del Rosario and Ces Yap kept their 2-3 positions with 929 and 898 pinfalls, respectively.

Both Benitez and Yap also went unchallenged in the all-events women’s Class O along with Liza Clutario, while the men’s division still have the trio of national team mentor Purvis Granger, Arnold Lecaros and Benny Dytoc on top.

As week one of the event sanctioned by the Asian Bowling Federation comes to a close, foreign entries start to see action today.

Bowlers from Korea, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Thailand are among the first to plunge into action and test the lanes at Green Valley.
