Corinthian rules Nokia Intervillage

-
Corinthian Gardens turned Wack Wack’s west course into a virtual playground yesterday, scoring 299 Stableford points for a runaway victory in the Nokia Intervillage North golf tournament played under the scorching summer heat.

Corinthian Gardens, which topped the first round of the 12-to-play, eight-to-count tournament with a 295, played even better in the final 18 holes for a 594 total, way ahead of last year’s North champion Philam Homes which had a 288 for 564.

Coming in third and also earning a slot to the Nokia Grand Intervillage in November was Don Enrique Heights which scored a 279 for the second straight round en route to a 558 total in the event organized by Videocom in 1991.

PLDT, Alaxan, ICTSI, Mastercard, Mizuno, National Sports Grill, Philippine Airlines, Pisanti and 357 Boracay also support the Nokia Intervillage, which aims to develop friendship among the different golfing villages.

Landing fourth was Acropolis (283-557) followed by White Plains (286-553), Filinvest (283-530) La Vista (256-527), Xavierville (268-507) and Ayala Heights (243-500). Only the top three teams will advance into the Nokia Grand Intervill1age.

Lucio Tan Jr. once again carried the load for Corinthian Gardens, matching his first-round total of 40 points as he towed John Tan with 38, Valentin Chua (38), Ferdinand Aguila (38), Stewart Go (38), Hedy See (37), Rene Chua (35) and Paul Yap (35). Those whose scores did not count were Edgar See (34), Juanito Go (34), Art Alarilla (34) and Richard Go (32).

The final round of the Nokia South is set June 4, Nokia East June 17 .
