Strong foreign, local field in Subic triathlon

A strong field of at least 50 foreign and 200 local triathletes are set to join the hunt for the pot totaling P500,000 in this year’s edition of the Subic Bay International Triathlon (SUBIT) — highlight of the triathlon season — at the Subic Bay Freeport on June 2.

Among the countries with confirmed entries, Hong Kong will field triathletes led by former Asian junior champion Lee Chi Wo who is eyeing a three-peat in this ITU event where the top finishers gain points for the world ranking.

Lee will be challenged by crack triathletes from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Japan.

Former world titleholder, Australian Nicole Hackett, won’t be back to defend her title where she clinched an all-comers record to boot. Nevertheless, world-class as well as Asian level of competition is expected in the event.

Powerhouse Japan will send six triathletes, same with Singapore, India five, Thailand four and the Netherlands three to this popular stop of the Asia Cup series sponsored by the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), POC, Philippine Sports Commission, Enervon, Hotel La Corona, Gerry’s Grill, Asia Pacific Insulation Corp and Speedo.
