Greenhills1 pulls away in Nokia golf

Defending overall champion Greenhills 1 showed it has not lost any of its clout in winning the crown last year as it made its presence felt right in the first round of the Nokia Intervillage East eliminations Monday at the Manila Golf and Country Club.
Greenhills 1 amassed 284 points behind three 38-point cards and pulled away by 12 points over Valle Verde 1 (272) and 13 over Casa Verde (271).
Mulong Santos, a 15 handicapper, Manuel Bernabe and Benson Lim, with 13 handicap, carded the three 38 scores for Greenhills 1 with Pete Lavarro coming in with a 36.
The other scorers for the team in the 12-to-play, eight-to-count format were Doming Hernandez (34), Arthur Reyes (34), Louie Borromeo (34) and Sonny Go 32. Team captain Ernie Pilares submitted a 31.
Valle Verde 1 could only put in two cards of 38 points through Bonnie Vergel de Dios and Eddie Boy Ochoa while Wilfred Batara had a 37. The other pointmakers for the team were Manuel Roxas Jr. (35), Boy Blue Ocampo of IMG (32), Chris Kit Vergara (31), Randy Cinco (31) and Jimmy Dy (30).
