SUBIT introduces two age classes

-
The ninth Subic Bay International Triathlon (SUBIT) on June 2 will mark the pioneering implementation of the Under-23 (U/23) and Junior Sprint (16-19) age categories in Asia.

Following the approval of the International Triathlon Union (ITU), the new scheme will be featured in the Triathlon World Championships (TWC) in Cancun, Mexico on Nov. 10.

According to the ITU, U/23 competitors will be given chances to gain invaluable Triathlon World Championship level experience beyond the Junior category. Many competitors, especially from stronger countries, have a period of several years between Junior level and the Elite level, with some of them getting "lost" in the meantime.

Junior triathletes will be provided the opportunity to race at the TWC without having to race the Standard Distance 51.5 Km, as many of them are not physically or physiologically ready at ages 17, 18 and even 19.
