GMA to play in 1st Speaker’s Cup

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is playing in the First Speaker’s Cup for Haven tournament slated May 9, at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club’s West course.

Gina de Venecia, president and chairperson of the organizing Congressional Spouses Foundation Inc., and Margie Duavit, the tournament’s overall chairperson, jointly bared this yesterday.

"On behalf of the CSFI and members of the executive committee, we would like to profusely thank the President for accepting our invitation to play in the tournament," they said.

"To be sure, her presence alone would add tremendous prestige to the event, which we are launching for a very worthy cause," they added.

Ms. De Venecia also said that the First Speaker’s Cup is CSFI’s second major project for the year, which is to establish a National Haven for Children.

"Our main goal in this tournament is to build, create and maintain a rehabilitation center to keep children off the streets of Metro Manila," she said.

Aside from the Persident, another special guest invited is House Speaker Jose de Venecia, who is the honoree of the 18-hole tournament.
