The celebrated MP Turbo teams of Gulf Oil-zed and Dickies Racing are all set to dispute top class honors at the resumption of the 2002 Subic Grand Prix Series in the Subic International Raceway, SBMA Freeport this weekend.
"We are extremely confident that we will be able to bag podium honors in the different classes this weekend," said team manager Mike Potenciano. "We were in a more adverse situation at the start of last years series but we eventually improved in the rounds that followed to end up fourth in the Super Saloon class and as champions in the Production category at the end of the season. With our good showing last weekend, we will definitely provide the favorites with the competition the rest of the way."
The multi-titled racing teams major sponsors for the series are Gulf Oil, the lubricant specialist; zed, the worlds largest mobile service provider; and Dickies, the sporting apparel for people on the go. Likewise supporting the team are Abante Newspaper, Francisco Motors Corporation, Yehey.com, AER Engines, ROTA Wheels, CPM Mufflers and Accessories, Racegear, BLTBCo, Bavarian Machine Works, and Eastrack.
Gulf Oil-zed ace driver Carlos Antons superb second place finishes in the premier Petron Blaze Super Saloon Class proved he was the best among the rest who failed to foil the rampaging charge of Caltex driver Jody Coseteng.
Dickies Racing will have 2001 Challnge cup champion Monching Gutierrez back behind the wheel of one of its two Hyundai Elantras this weekend. Gutierrez missed the opening rounds to attend an engagement in New Zealand.
MP Turbo driver George Apacible was a worthy substitute for the absent Gutierrez as he managed to finish second in class B of the SVI Challenge Cup. Meanwhile, Tonton Gutierrez, the other half of Dickies-MP Turbo Racings celebrity duo managed to third place finishes in the same class. Pampangueño John Sambos second place finish in the novice class was solid proof that the team was on the right groove.
