’02 PRISAA fires off in Cebu

It’s all systems go for the PRISAA sporstfest which fires off today in four different playing venues in Cebu.

A total of 1,500 athletes and officials from 15 regions showcase their athletics prowess in four events–athletics, baseball, basketball and volleyball–in the weeklong event hosted by Cebu for the first time since the annual sportsfest was revived last year in Pampanga after years of hiatus.

Athletics will be played at the Abellana sports complex, baseball at Mactan, basketball and volleyball at the Southwestern University. The finals will be played at the Cebu Coliseum.

The weeklong event culminates with the search for Mutya ng PRISAA.

This is the first time in eight years Cebu will host a sporstfest since the 1994 Palarong Pambansa held at the Abellana sports complex.

PSC chairman Eric Buhain will grace the opening ceremony. Also in attendance are PRISAA national chairman and Clark Development Corporation chief Manny Angeles, PRISAA national president Matias "Bombi" Aznar, PABA president Hector Navasero, and city mayor Tomas Osmena.

PSC shelled out P1 million as financial assistance to insure the success of the weeklong event.<
