Ginebra, Selecta in non-bearing match

Barangay Ginebra and the Selecta Philippine Team collide tonight in a game that can well be called the lull before the storm.

That’s because the Ginebra-RP Selecta duel has become a non-bearing match, ushering in a weekend of crucial matches ending the elimination phase of the Samsung PBA Governors Cup.

Ginebra and RP Selecta merely dispute a share of ninth place with RP Hapee at the close of the elims as they clash at 6 p.m. at the Makati Coliseum.

In various gyms around the metropolis, Airfreight 2100/FedEx, San Miguel Beer and Alaska are deep in workout as they brace for key games to decide which team will join Talk N Text, Purefoods and Coca-Cola in the Magic Four.

With a 6-4 win-loss card, the Express have the inside track in the fight for the important spot but they have a tough assignment in the Phone Pals in their final game in the elims on Saturday at the Philsports Arena.

A loss by FedEx to Talk N Text will pave the way for a virtual playoff between San Miguel and Alaska for the No. 4 seat Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Red Bull and Sta. Lucia may figure in a tie for the fourth spot at the close of the elims but they will not make it to the Magic Four due to inferior quotients.

Red Bull tackles Purefoods Saturday and Sta. Lucia takes on Shell Sunday. The Hotdogs will gain top seeding in the quarters if they beat the Thunder.
