The two-week sports competition, which has its theme: "Batang Q sa Palakasan … Palaban!" and initiated by the city government thru the Sports Development Council and the Sangguniang Kabataan, is open to all Quezon City youth aged 9-15 years old.

Belmonte said registration is now on-going in the city’s 142 barangays. A participant must register in the barangay which he will represent in the sportsfest.

The Mayor said the city sportsfest aims to inculcate the values of teamwork, collegiality and sportsmanship among city residents, particularly the youth.

It is also designed to engage the youth in sports activities to keep them away from juvenile delinquency, alcohol and drug abuse, gambling, vices and other social menaces.

Belmonte said the meet also hoped to strengthen inter-barangay relations through competitive sports which include events like basketball, volleyball, table tennis, cycling, karate, taekwondo, swimming and track and field.
