Realtors test Aces new import

-
Alaska Milk, determined to clinch one of the top four slots in the quarterfinal, parades a new import in CBA veteran James Head today when it meets Sta. Lucia Realty in the Samsung PBA Governors Cup at the Philsports Arena.

Head, a 6-foot-7 product of Eastern Michigan who had stints with the Flint Fuze, Idaho Stampede and Fargo Moorehead Beez in the CBA, quietly slipped into town less than two weeks ago and has attended team practices before the Lenten break.

Head, who was also part of the Canada GT Express squad that played a series of games against top US collegiate teams last year, will take the place of Muntrell Dubbins and will team up with Ron Riley as the Aces try to improve their 4-3 record.

Alaska is running fifth in the 12-team tournament with four games left while Sta. Lucia, winner of the same conference title over San Miguel Beer last December, is a shadow behind the Milkmen with its 3-4 record.

Only eight teams will make it to the next round where the top four teams will enjoy a twice-to-beat privilege. The semifinalists will then figure in two best-of-five playoffs to determine the finalists. The final will be a best-of-seven affair.

As it is, Purefoods and Talk N Text have the inside track on two of the top four slots in the next round with their 7-1 and 6-1 records, respectively. Red Bull is running third at 5-2 while Coca-Cola is in fourth at 5-3.

Alaska and Sta. Lucia won their last assignments before the one-week break with the Aces beating RP Hapee, 68-61, last March 21 and the Realtors pulling off a scary 87-86 win over Coca-Cola last March 24.
