What it failed to do in swimming, the Philippines did it in basketball as it cut Thailand, 105-86, Wednesday to rule the event at the close of the 11th ASEAN University Games at the Ateneo Gym.
Froilan Baguion, playing out of National University, exploded with 21 points to lead the Filipinos runaway victory.
Meanwhile, RPs swimming team won three more silver and bronze medals Wednesday night to formally finish at second overall behind powerhouse Thailand at the conclusion of the pool events at the Rizal Memorial Swimming Pools.
The silver medalists were Bernard Datoc in the mens 200-meter breaststroke (2:19.59), and the men and women 400-m freestyle relay teams.
Thailand swept all eight gold medals disputed on the final day in swimming to formally clinch the overall swimming crown with 32 gold medals.
