Atoy Co shines in Rotary golf

BAGUIO – Former basketball star Atoy Co bagged the overall individual plum while Bagumbayan I took team honors in the 16th edition of the recent northern leg of the Rotary Golfing Fellowship Foundation of the Philippines (RGFFP) tournament series in two venues here.

Co, carrying the banner of Pasig I, upstaged the low handicappers with his 36-hole total of 84 points for the top individual award in the tourney which drew 298 players from 28 different clubs from all over Luzon.

Bagumbayan drew a big game from Sevie Oliva on the way to winning the top team award in the event which was sponsored by Taylor Made Adidas, General Nutrition Center, Menzi & Company, Merisant Phils. Inc., Classica Suites Inc., San Miguel Corp., Sherwood Hills Golf and Country Club and Ultra Promo Craft.

Angeles Centro took the Founders division, Cabanatuan Mother Club won the Governors division. Parañaque East bagged the Presidents division, Las Piñas topped the Fellowship division and Goody Ignacio ruled the Open division.

Poch Borromeo, chief operating officer of RGFFP, awarded the prizes to the winners together with other committee members and tournament director Pancho Perrea.

Noni Noel of Angeles Centro submitted the low gross score with his 71-68 tally. Other individual champions were Cabanatuan’s Bong de Guzman, Efren Syyap and Luling Bernardo.

De Guzman beat Sam Bugayong and Bong Mandapat for the Flight A plum, Syyap won over Danny Yu and John Santos in Flight B, Bernardo edged Mike Ramat ang Gabby Tinio in Flight C and Oliva prevailed over Frank Manaig and Ernesto Angeles in Flight D.

Oliva, whose company sponsored the Smart Mercedes Benz prize for a hole-in-one, ended up winning the Tudor "Hydronaut" watch which was raffled off as the grand major pri
