PMI spikers remain unbeaten in CUSA

Philippine Maritime Institute stayed unbeaten in five matches after waylaying Metro Manila College and St. Jude College in the Colleges and Universities Sports Association (CUSA) men’s volleyball tournament recently at the MMC gym.

The Mariners first came away with a 23-25, 24-26, 25-20, 25-20, 15-9 victory over the host team before thwarting SJC, 25-17, 25-19, 19-25, 25-18.

Games resume on Jan. 8 with the Mariners looking for a sixth triumph when they play University of Assumption-Pampanga.

St. Jude College, which earlier whipped Gregorio Araneta University Foundation, 25-23, 25-11, 25-18, is now behind PMI with a 4-2 win-loss record. Manuel L. Quezon University bounced back from a loss to PMI with victories over Technological Institute of the Philippines, 25-14, 6-25, 25-22, 12-25, 15-2, and GAUF, 25-16, 25-17, 26-24.

The Stallions are now at third place with a 3-3 slate.

Central Colleges of the Philippines dropped TIP to fourth (3-2) with a 25-19, 25-15, 23-25, 25-18 verdict in this tournament backed by Deowhite, Gandour Philippines, Clover Chips, Oxygen, Negros Navigation, San Miguel Beer, Cali, No Drowse Decolgen, Pepsi, 97.9 Home Radio, Meg and Forward, Padi’s Point-Araneta and CAP Philippines.

GAUF’s twin losses had them slipping to fifth (2-3) with MMC, which got away with a 26-24, 25-18, 25-2 subduing of Trinity College.
