CAP-John Hay rules Fil-Am golf tourney

CAP-John Hay banked on its familiarity with the short but challenging golf courses of Camp John Hay (CJH) and Baguio Country Club (BCC) to sweep the FIL and AM divisions of Flight A in the recently concluded 52nd Annual Fil-Am Men’s International Golf Tournament in Baguio City.

Backed by College Assurance Plan (CAP), the Baguio-based squad dished out an impressive performance, piling up enough points in four grueling rounds of fierce competition in both divisions.

Spearheading the FIL-Flight A team is team captain Shean Bedi, who accounted for the highest aggregate score under the Stableford scoring system.

The other team members are Mike Pearson, Jimmy Borromeo and Samaniego brothers, Danny and Ronnie.

"The collective effort paid off. We are extremely happy with the win,’’ Bedi said.

They finished the tournament with 416 points, four in front of Philippine Navy and seven ahead of Heidi’s Construction, who placed second and third, respectively.

Equally superb was the accomplishment of the AM-Flight A team.

Led by veterans Freddie Mendoza and Bong Mandapat, the AM-Flight A made a charge to start the tournament and built a comfortable lead over its closest pursuers.

Days 2 and 3 of competition proved to be a massacre as they padded their point advantage to 48 points.

In the end, they finished with 414 points, well ahead of runner-up Aguinaldo Golf Club’s 337. Second runner-up honors went to Pines Golfers of California with 329.

Aside from Mendoza and Mandapat, other team members who competed in the AM division were Camp John Hay Dev. Corp. chairman Robert John Sobrepeña, Mars Garcia, Clyde Cabreros and Nap Maranan.

Mendoza also won the individual honors for Class A.
