PBA accepts draft applications today

The Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Office opens today and tomorrow to accept applications for the 2002 draft slated Jan. 13 at the Glorietta in Makati.

A staff that will accommodate all walk-in applicants has been tapped during this Christmas break with the deadline set at 5 p.m. tomorrow.

So far, close to 20 have applied for the draft, including what many see is a bumper crop of Fil-foreign players who have sent feelers and inquired about the draft.

Local-born players who are interested must make sure that they satisfy any of the following: a) at least 23 years old b) high school graduate at the end of the 1998 school year c) or a college degree holder.

Fil-foreign applicants must also be able to satisfy any of the three basic requirements and submit a Department of Justice confirmation of their citizenship on or before January 8, 2002.

Inquiries can be coursed through phone numbers 638-1815 to 17 or interested parties can personally go to the PBA office at the third floor, Building A, PhilSports Complex, Meralco Avenue in Pasig.
