Yanick Guba, sis dominate Milo netfest

BACOLOD The brother-and-sister act of Yanick Guba and Martina Guba dominated the 2001 Milo Junior Tennis Cup and Regional Workshop after the La Carlota netters captured four titles between themselves here at the Negros Occidental Tennis Association (NOTA) clay courts.
Yanick chased down Manilas Chase Tinio, 6-1, 6-4, for the boys 18-under division crown and Janjie Soquino, 7-5, 6-1, in the boys 16-under class; while Martina edged Bernardine Siso of Cebu, 6-3, 7-5, in the unisex 10-under group and Claire Cortes, 6-3, 6-4, to bag the girls 12-under bracket.
Yanick and Martina shared the limelight with NOTAs Gerard Bergavera in the boys 12-under; Arithmetico Lim of Manila in the boys 14-under; Melody Barraquias of Dumaguete in the girls 14-under; Berry Sepulveda of Cebu in the girls 16-under; and Benebeth Patindol of La Carlota in the girls 18-under divisions.
NOTA president Vicente Bugaay graced the awards rites in the Milo netfest organized by the CTW and supported by Adidas and Sports Kids.
Bergavera stopped giant-killer Daniel Macalino, 6-3, 6-1; Lim outlasted Mauric Lao, 2-6, 6-0, 6-1; Barraquias downed Loren Barrientos, 6-4, 6-1; Sepulveda edged Patindol, 4-6, 6-0, 7-6; and Patindol retired the same rival in the higher age group.
