Filipino pair bags bronze in Asian dancesport tiff

Dancesport is getting close to the elusive gold.
At the recently-held Asian Dancesport Championship in Taipeh, Amateur Latin top couple Bong Marquez and Belinda Adora bagged the bronze in the Amateur Latin event, beating couples from Taipeh, Macao, Singapore, Thailand, Korea, and Hong Kong.
Kazakhstan and Japan came in first and second, respectively. Latin second couple Richard Obong and Flora Lagario finished sixth in the finals. Amateur Standard top couple Edgar Borromeo and Ana Yango also finished sixth in the finals. Youth Latin and Standard top couple Brian and Karla Ocana placed fourth in the Latin event and fifth in the Standard event. Amateur Standard second couple Rommel Ybalio and Rebecca Vasaylaje reached semifinals in the Standard event placing eighth.
Dance Sport Council of the Philippines president Becky Garcia headed the delegation in Taipeh together with DSCP treasurer Gloria Alcala, who was one of the 11 adjudicators that included top foreign names from the dancesport world led by IDSF sports director Heinz Spaeker and others from England, Germany, Slovakia, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Taipeh.
The group made a courtesy call on PSC chair Butch Tuason upon their arrival.
In Taipeh, the Asian Dancesport Federation approved the Philippines bid to host the Asia Pacific Dancesport Championship in Manila in October next year.
