Kings spoil Chamber’s farewell bash

Alaska Milk retired Sean Chamber’s jersey in a poignant ceremony but Barangay Ginebra spoiled the Aces’ night by pulling off a 103-101 decision in their matchup in the PBA Governors Cup eliminations at the Philsports Arena last night.

The Alaska organization, including former coaches and players, practicaly came in droves to pay tribute to Chambers. They all went home with a heavy heart not only because of Chambers’ retirement after 13 seasons in the league but also with the Aces’ continued slump in the season-ending tournament.

Ginebra dealt Alaska a fourth straight loss in a down-to-the-wire battle.

The Aces had a chance to send the game into overtime after Jayjay Helterbrand missed a jumper with still seven seconds left. However, James Wallkvist wasted precious seconds before hurling an outlet pass, leaving Kenneth Duremdes with no other option but to throw a prayer of a long, long shot at the buzzer.

Duremdes’ attempt, taken in front of two Ginebra defenders, went too strong, enabling the Kings to escape with their second win in four outings.
