KUALA LUMPUR (Via Globe Telecoms) Two brothers in a three-member shooting team is rare and for them to shoot identical score in even rarer.
But Carolino and Marcelo Gonzales did just that, both firing a 568 as together with Gilbert Escobar, they collected a bronze medal for the Philippines in the 21st SEA Games mens team air pistol shooting event at Subang Shooting Range in Selangor Monday.
Carolino, winner of individual free pistol gold medal from 1993-1997, hit 94, 92, 95, 97, 94, 96 while Marcelo had 92, 96, 94, 94, 95 and 97 in the 60-shot event.
"Hihingi nga dapat ako ng shootoff, dahil tinablahan ako," said Carolino in jest.
"We didnt expect the score to be the same. It is just a coincidence," said Marcelo.
It was the first time ever that both submitted identical scores since Marcelo joined his older brother in the national team in 1998.
"I learned this sport from Carolino and he always gets a higher mark than me during training," said Marcelo.
