The tournament, slated Aug. 21-24 at the south course of the Canlubang golf complex, will only accommodate the first 144 entrants with the cream of the amateur crop clashing for top honors in the featured 72-hole men’s championship division.
Fabulous prizes and trophies are at stake in the Globe Telecom-backed event, a 4-in-1 tournament which includes the 54-hole stroke play championship for women and the 36-hole championship division "B" for men.
Also on tap are the 36-hole championships in Classes A, B and C for men and women slated in the last two days.
Focus, however, will be on the men’s championship with members of the national team to next month’s Southeast Asian Games out to stamp their class over an equally-talented field.
The RP squad, composed of Juvic Pagunsan, Jay Bayron, Jesselito Zaragoza and Marvin Dumandan and alternate Gene Bondoc will be using the event as part of their buildup for the SEA Games slated Sept. 8-17 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
