Canlubang Open listup ends today

Registration for next weeks second Canlubang Amateur Open Golf Championships ends today with only nine berths available, according to the organizers of the event. Entry fee is pegged at P2,000, inclusive of green fee and one free practice round.
The tournament, slated Aug. 21-24 at the south course of the Canlubang golf complex, will only accommodate the first 144 entrants with the cream of the amateur crop clashing for top honors in the featured 72-hole mens championship division.
Fabulous prizes and trophies are at stake in the Globe Telecom-backed event, a 4-in-1 tournament which includes the 54-hole stroke play championship for women and the 36-hole championship division "B" for men.
Also on tap are the 36-hole championships in Classes A, B and C for men and women slated in the last two days.
Focus, however, will be on the mens championship with members of the national team to next months Southeast Asian Games out to stamp their class over an equally-talented field.
The RP squad, composed of Juvic Pagunsan, Jay Bayron, Jesselito Zaragoza and Marvin Dumandan and alternate Gene Bondoc will be using the event as part of their buildup for the SEA Games slated Sept. 8-17 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
