Narvasa slaps more fines vs erring cagers
July 25, 2001 | 12:00am
MBA commissioner Ogie Narvasa sanctioned four more personalities the past week, assessing them a total fine of P16,000, in what is now a common occurrence in the pro league.
LBC Batangas coach Nash Racela and players Alwyn Flores of Socsargen, Danny Capobres of Andok's San Juan and Oliver Bunyi of Nueve Ecija were the latest to be penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Flores got the stiffest sanction with a fine of P8,000 and a one-game suspension which takes effect today in the Socsargen-LBC Batangas tiff at 3 p.m. at the Araullo Centrum in Cabanatuan City.
Flores hit Jan Montalbo in the face and elbowed Mat Mitchell, resulting in his ejection in their game against Cebuana Lhuillier last week.
Narvasa also warned Flores that a repetition of the same infraction will result in a stiffer sanction.
Capobres was fined P4,000 for hitting Chris Clay of Fedex Laguna in the head in their game last Friday, his third offense this season after doing the same on LBC Batangas Stephen Antonio and Socsargens Aldrich Reyes in past games.
Racela and Bunyi were slapped a P2,000 fine each for different offenses.
Meanwhile, LBC Batangas and Andok's San Juan seek to strengthen their hold of the top two spots as they play separate opponents today in the first phase of the 2001 MBA season at the Araullo Centrum Gym in Cabanatuan. Joey Villar
