Asuncions score double kill

Siblings Kennie and Kennevic Asuncion gave the word overkill a new meaning after the two swept both divisions in the open singles and the mixed doubles events in yesterday’s conclusion of the JVC Open Badminton Championships at the Activity Center of the Glorietta Mall.
Kennevic, playing out of Valle Verde, virtually went through the proverbial eye of the needle in the second set before repulsing Jaime Llanes, 15-5, 15-10, to cop the men’s title.
Llanes, ranked fourth, twice led Asuncion, 3-0, in the opening set and 10-4 in the second, but twice disintegrated in both occasions as Kennevic patiently rallied back to seal the match.
Women’s No. 1 pick Kennie, on the other hand, was more dominating as she bundled out Vanessa Tanco of Manila Polo Club with relative ease, 11-1, 11-1, for the women’s crown and her eighth straight win in this event.  Joey Villar
