Giv Beauty Soap thumped Hapee Toothpaste, 57-46, yesterday to gain a share of third place with Welcoat Paints in the PBL Chairmans Cup at the Makati Coliseum.
Edwin Bacani scored seven of his 11 points in the first quarter to set the tone for the rout as the Soap Masters notched their fourth win against three losses to tie the Paint Masters for third behind Shark and Ana Freezers.
Giv also proved unforgiving in defense as the Soap Masters held their rivals to just seven points in the pivotal third quarter to pull away for good.
The Teeth Sparklers made only 18 shots out of 68 tries for a woeful 26 percent shooting and they typified this in the third period when they practically watched the Soap Masters score at will en route to building leads of as many as 17 points, 48-31.
In the second game, Jessie Cabanayan sank a prayer of a shot from three-fourth the length of the court to force an overtime but Pharmaquick pulled through just the same, nipping Osaka, 88-85, for its fourth win in seven starts. Joey Villar
