Alay sa Kawal to push thru despite crisis

Despite the political unrest that erupted in Manila recently, Alay sa Kawal (ASK) chairman Edgardo Espiritu announced that the GMA Para sa Kawal Cup will push through on May 19 with President Arroyo as the guest of honor. To be held in both championship courses of the Riviera Golf and Country Club in Silang, Cavite, the tee-off time will be at 7:30 a.m.

The invitational golf tournament is being organized for the benefit of ASK by Defense Secretary Angelo Reyes, Armed Forces Chief of Staff Gen. Diomedio Villanueva and Espiritu.

ASK is a non-stock, non-profit and non-political organization established soon after the 1986 People Power Revolution to extend financial assistance to the families of soldiers killed or wounded in combat. ASK was founded by businessmen and professionals from the private sector as an expression of their appreciation and gratitude to the common soldier for sacrifices made in defending the country.

To date, ASK has extended financial assistance to 3,388 families of soldiers either killed in action or critically wounded in combat. It has also granted livelihood assistance projects to 125 military dependents in the form of soft loans and has awarded 136 soldiers and their dependents scholarship grants through the Distance Education Approach Response to Collegiate Advancement and Proficiency of the CAP College Foundation.
