PBA chief in stable condition

Philippine Basketball Association commissioner Emilio P. Bernardino has been moved out of the Intensive Care Unit of the Capitol Medical Center yesterday and transferred to a private room, according to the league’s Media Bureau.

Bernardino, the league’s top honcho since 1994, was admitted to the ICU of Capitol Monday afternoon after being airlifted from Baguio. He complained of shortness of breath and dizziness while vacationing with his family in Baguio over the weekend.

The PBA commissioner is suffering from a ventricular problem, which in layman’s terms is an irregular heartbeat, and which is being closely monitored by attending physicians and members of his family.

The steady progress of his condition has made doctors move him out of ICU.

Renauld Barrios, the long-time executive director of Bernardino, has temporarily taken over and is the officer-in-charge until Bernardino’s return.
