Palawan, the country’s "Last Frontier", will be the host of the third leg of the National Motocross Series 2001: a Race of Yamaha, today at Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
The Caltex Revtex-KTM team, led by five-time National Rider of the Year awardee Glenn Aguilar and 12-year-old rider Kenneth San Andres, is set to reaffirm its supremacy in the individual events over more than 100 riders which have already confirmed their participation in the series organized by Hartebeest Entertainment Corp. in cooperation with Mamamayan Ayaw sa Droga (MAD) and Kids Foundation.
This will be the first of five out-of-town races in this year’s national motocross series sanctioned by the National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (NAMSSA) and Hartebeest marketing manager Marilen Nunez said a record crowd is expected to watch the event.
"As in the previous two legs held in Fort Bonifacio, we expect record attendance in this first out-of-town sortie of motocross," said Nunez.
Led by Aguilar, the Caltex Revtex-KTM team dominates the 12-leg motocross series. Aguilar is leading the pro open category with 77 points, leading Jing Leongson by 19 points. He also leads the pro 125 category with 80 points, a good 27 points in front of Ernie Leongson.
San Andres is also in command of the miniclass with 77 points, a big leap over the 64 points of Jimboy Marcelo and 48 points of Maico Buncio.
Other riders expected to give the Caltex Revtex-KTM team a run for their money are Mark Ledesma, who ruled the open production 125 category in the second leg of the motocross series at The Fort; Bebet dela Cruz and Jerry Beech (pro 125 and 250); Alvin Beech (expert); and Johnny Garcia and Brian Villarde (open production 125).
